As part of the the 625th anniversary celebration of the University of Heidelberg (Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg), the university’s Geographical Institute hosted the 7th Annual Meeting of the German Working Group on Geoarchaeology (Arbeitskreis Geoarchäologie). The symposium took place on May 6 to May 8, 2011. Radiocarbon dating lab Beta Analytic, Inc. was a participant at the event.
The symposium featured the latest researches focused on man-environmental interactions and past landscape evolution without any geographical restrictions. The program included oral and poster sessions, a one-day field trip in Heidelberg, and a special e-poster session. Arbeitskreis Geoarchäologie members Dr. Olaf Bubenzer of Universität Köln and Dr. Christoph Siart of Universität Heidelberg were the organizers of the event.
According to the Soil Analysis Support System for Archaeology (SASSA), geoarchaeology involves the application of soil, sediment, geological, and geomorphological analytical techniques to address archaeological questions. Such techniques can be applied to soils, sediments, anthropogenic materials, and artifacts. Geoarchaeology has a strong overlap with dating, geophysical, and remote sensing techniques as well as with other environmental studies.
Beta Analytic flyers were added in the annual meeting’s registration packets, and its logo was included in the symposium’s book of abstracts.
The company would like to thank Dr. Siart for his assistance in Beta Analytic’s advertising effort for this event.
